The Mai Kai
The Mai Kai, on North Federal Highway in Ft. Lauderdale, was the "big deal" evening out with my Aunt Dorothy when we were on vacation in Florida. The Mai Kai is a
cool Polynesian restaurant with a great floor show, a tropical garden, and tiki interior design. I was particularly interested
in the two piece cocktail waitress outfits. Or rather, the cocktail waitresses in the two piece outfits.
1/6/01 I went to the Mai Kai with my Sister and Brother-in-law. It is just like I remember it. The gift shop has been moved but other than that it is the same.
They even do the same show. Since 1956, and not changed one bit. I still recommend it.
Pier 66
Pillips of Phillips 66 gas stations built a fancy hotel in the 60's called Pier 66. It was the in place for a while, then it was out of favor, as the Phillips 66
empire collapsed I think, an then it was revived. Unfortunately they re-decorated the bar at the top. It used to be spectacularly 1964 but now it
is non-descript lounge. It is a cool looking tower standing by the Intercoastal Waterway near Port Everglades.
The Bureau of Crap holds a number of Pier 66 ashtrays.
All Nude Girls
Near Pier 66 there used to be a bar with a huge neon sign that said All Nude Girls. I never went in to find out if they only admitted nude girls or if they
were claiming that all of the nude girls in the world were in there or what exactly they were trying to say.
Just south of Ft. Lauderdale is the old town of Dania.
