Lake Tahoe

Crystal Bay, on the north shore of Lake Tahoe, has a few casinos right on the Californa / Nevada border. The Cal-Neva club, named for its location, holds great attraction for me. The border cuts right through a wood panneled hall and the swimming pool. The line is marked.

The Cal-Neva was once owned by Frank Sinatra, who lost it when he picked a needless fight with the gaming authorities.

The ratty Crystal Bay club is kind of cool in a run down sort of way. Further in to Nevada, Crystal Bay turns in to a tax dodge haven for millionaires. The power of government is obvious in places like Crystal Bay.
